Where: Brazos Bend State Park, 21901 FM 762, Needville Texas
When: April 25th, 6:30 am until mid afternoon
Cost: $7 per person entry fee and money for lunch
Recommended Gear: Camera and lenses (telephoto for wildlife, wider for landscapes). a backpack or shoulder type bag that's easy to carry, extra batteries.
Not Recommended: A tripod due to the amount of walking, a light monopod would work but at that time of day not really necessary.
Spring is the time for getting out in the outdoors for wildlife before heat and humidity make it more challenging. Brazos Bend SP has an abundance of wildlife with over 300 bird species, white-tailed deer, feral hogs, armadillos, and river otters.
All Texas State Parks highly recommend purchasing your day pass for entry in advance at their reservation website, they sometimes cap entry to the park keeping it from getting too crowded and Saturdays in spring are popular. The park opens at 8 am and we will try to leave the church parking lot at 6:30, the drive is around 80 minutes at that time of day on a Saturday.
For several years there has been an owl nest near the main parking lot in the park at 40 Acre Lake. From that point we will walk the wide trail along the lake and then continue on the Spillway Trail to the Elm Lake Trail. From there we will return to 40 Acre Lake and continue to loop around the lake back to the parking lot.
I will try to find some spots to consider for lunch after our photo walk
I am creating an event so please RSVP!
